5A must for a Simpsons fan.  Jun 02, 2010
I got this without even thinking about it because I knew that I had to have this season in my Simpsons collection. The packaging of these DVDs is fun (like all the other Simpsons seasons) and has colorful drawing of the famous family.
When I watch the first episodes from 1989, I feel overwhelmed by the hilarious Homer, Marge, Lisa, Maggie, and of course my favorite character, Bart. The picture and audio are not the best quality but that's what makes it more enjoyable for it being old and a part of pop culture history.
The Simpsons go on out of this world silly adventures. With Homer and Bart finding Santa's Little Helper, the Simpsons go camping but somethings goes wrong, Bart taking a stand for him and the other kids being bullied, and Homer beginning to recognize safety.
This season is fabulous even if the technology is dated. I love this unique family and like the little lessons that the show puts in. The Simpsons have been a big part in the past 2 decades and I wouldn't have them any other way.

5There have been some changes in the Simpson Family  Feb 22, 2010
It was fun seeing how the Simpson's have "evolved" over the last 20 years. My son wanted the 20th Season set of DVD's and I thought it would be fun for him to see how they have changed so I bought him Season 1 also. Season 1 was 7 years before he was even born! He loved them.

I bought this so I could hit play all and watch the entire season on my ps3 without having to change discs.

great product! they not only cleared up the picture, and make it look more smooth as if it was animated this year, they changed the format, and added sides to the regular 'box' picture, so that when watching it on the widescreen tv, it uses the 16:9 format! just amazing! the audio seems to have also been touched up a bit, as it works perfectly on a 5.1 surround sound system. cant wait for season 2 on bluray!

3And So It Begins! Too Bad About the Picture Quality Though!  Oct 23, 2009
Some of the best ever episodes of "The Simpsons" are included here as the reason this entire franchise has been so successful is for me because of the intelligent script and the genius of James L Brooks. The drawings of the characters are naturally raw as they are not the finished product that we have become used to over the years but this is alright given the quality of the gags and the great story-telling. These episodes though have been transferred from a poor videotape master as we frequently get the shimmering, crooked lines that you get on a bad video when the tape sticks to the playing magnetic head of the player and this is very evident in every episode which took away a great deal from my overall enjoyment of the dvds. I don't remember seeing these when they were screened on tv and so it's unfortunate that for a "Collector's Edition" that we should get such poor dvd picture quality transfer although I have to say the sound quality on Dolby 5.1 surround is pretty good.

Overall, great episodes, sound quality but poor picture quality transfer from what appears to be a videotape with all its inherent limitations.
