Hilarious! Jul 28, 2010 Hilarious movie! I love the show and this movie definitely doesn't disappoint. You can tell they put a lot of time into it and didn't half ass it and just make an hour and a half long episode like Family Guy did. This has a real plot like any big movie should. Totally worth it.
Great movie, but lacking in extras. Jul 25, 2010 If you are a fan of the Simpsons TV show then owning this movie is a no-brainer. The movie looks and sounds great in Blu-ray. But my only complaint is that the extras are lacking. There is commentary, but these guys are in love with themselves. They are constantly talking over one another. They do manage to mention some interesting trivia about the Simpsons, but since they all seem to like talking at once it gets tough to listen to. Bottom line, buy this one, but get it one sale and don't expect more than the movie.
Great Simpsons but Uneven Writing Jul 23, 2010 This movie is, overall, great and watching it in HD on a large LCD TV is a real treat. The uneven writing and gags are hard to swallow though. The whole bit with the pig was very weak (terrible actually) and makes you suspect someone else entirely wrote that whole bit. Then there were bits where Homer was swinging on the wrecking ball "between a rock and A Hard Place". Just very bad. Way too bad for the seasoned writers on this movie. It makes you think the writer was thinking "this is SO bad, people will LOVE it!". Nope. It's just bad.
That said, though, if you can get past those things, it's a great movie, great plot and (mostly) great writing.
An extend episode from the greatest cartoon ever Jul 11, 2010 It's simply an extended episode but as this is The Simpson's that makes it's great. You love the Simpson's and want and extended episode this is a must have. If you want something more than a extend episode then this won't be for you. But the animation is very good a lot better than the TV program and as I said it's just aextended episode, which the Simpson's do what The Simpson's usually do and make a brilliant experiance.

About as funny as 4 episodes strung together - and the same length of time! Jun 17, 2010 Homer sets the tone in the cold open - while attending an Itchy and Scratchy movie, he says "I can't believe I paid $10 for something I can see at home for free!" In fact, this film is just about exactly the length of 4 episodes strung together.... So what's the point of making (or seeing) a Simpson's movie?
Unfortunately, this film doesn't really answer the question. Obviously there is a story arc that must extend over the time alotted, but the story is long because the movie is 90 minutes, not because a story was created that needed 90 minutes to be told. It doesn't bring anything particularly new to the Simpsons universe. In fact, there are so many internal rip-offs that repeated viewings may make the most forgiving fan cynical (especially the extended scene of Homer "finding himself", which was done better and more efficiently in the Season 8 episode "El Viaje Misterioso de Nuestro Homer", or the idea of Marge leaving Homer, more poignantly protrayed in Season 5 in "Secrets of a Successful Marriage").
So why give the film 4 stars? Because it's funny. It's funnier than just about any other film out there. The writers of the Simpsons take their craft very seriously, and fill the time with wall-to-wall jokes. There's also the added interest of some very impressive shots that would never be possible with the time and budget constraints of the TV series. For example, there is a shot that sweeps through an angry mob coming after Homer - there must be a thousand characters, all individually rendered and distinct, and it's very impressive!
This Blu-ray edition is pretty simple, but I, for one, appreciate that. Since the disc does not use all the bells and whistles of the Blu-ray software, it actually loads up quickly and even remembers its place if the power is turned off (so it can resume playing from where it was automatically). The extras are pretty thin - a couple of commentaries (they are pretty interesting, for commentaries) and a few deleted scenes. Again, there is more extra material in most of the Simpsons TV season DVDs.
